2nd Biannual Meeting and Training Week 3

Kuala Lumpur Biannual Meeting and Training Week (19th-24th March 2018)

Kuala Lumpur built on the successful template of the Bangkok meeting where we took the opportunity to organise a half-day symposium on early nutrition for local Malaysian participants. About 150 participants comprising academics, lecturers and practitioners from 40 different institutions were present to hear seven lectures from expert European, Thai and Malaysian speakers on the theme “The Journey of a Thousand Miles begins with the First 1000 Days: Long-term Effects of Early Nutrition".

During the rest of the week, the participants focused on the review of adapted module instructional design, media design element specifications and planning for a new module on Complementary Feeding. In our experience, the face-to-face discussions during biannual meetings were important as it helped to consolidate technical requirements, align approaches (as each partner works independently on their respective tasks in between meetings), and train participants with skills needed for the project. As an example of the latter, Dr Zahiruddin Fitri (Uni Malaya) conducted a training session on effective e-Learning Tools where participants were introduced to interactive, easy-to-use web-based teaching and learning tools, while Boonpraserd Treerayapiwat (Mahidol University) talked about social media marketing.
