Module 6: Complementary Feeding
The Complementary Feeding module consists of four units:
Complementary feeding typically covers the period from 6 to 24 months of age, which represents a critical period of rapid physical, neuro-cognitive and emotional development. This module aims to address the importance of appropriated nutrition during this critical first 1000 days.
The following learning objectives will be met in this module:
- To know the importance of appropriate complementary feeding for long-term health and development
- To recognize the pattern of sub-optimal complementary feeding leading to under- and overnutrition
- To counsel caregivers on appropriate complementary feeding focusing on energy and macronutrient balance
- To identify common feeding practices associated with the risk of developing micronutrient deficiencies
- To counsel caregivers on optimal complementary feeding focusing on important minerals and vitamins
